Creating a personalized, immersive experience.
During this 3 month long course I went through the entire design thinking process together with a group of students in order to create a personalized immersive point and click game for another UXD student.
I spent the first few weeks interviewing my user and spending time with her in order to get to know her. It helped me with gathering meaningful insights and creating a user portrait that became a source of my team's knowledge and inspiration in regards to the direction our ideation and designing would take.
After having gathered a sufficient amount of information about my user, we began the process of ideation. In total we gathered 40 ideas each (total 120 ideas) after which we converged on our own. In my case I converged to the top 3 ideas using certain criterias by which I judged each idea.
After that I took the two ideas that felt the most fitted to my user's personality and merged them into one.
Finally it was time to come up with the final concept and a storyboard that would become the basis of our future design.
The final concept was a point and click game in which the user would traverse across the jungle using her smart watch as a form of guidance. Along the way she would find letters left behind by her father which would provide her with clues. One of the tasks she would have to complete was collecting pencils which she then would use to bring color back to the forest, before moving on and crossing a dangerous bridge and finishing it off with a hike up a large mountain.
In the prototyping phase I went through all fidelity stages starting from Paper prototype, through low and mid fidelity and finishing up with a High Fidelity version which I worked on together with my teammates.
The idea behind the aesthetics was to target my users passion for art and creativity through a drawn environment in the game. In the first 3 stages of prototyping that meant I hand drew all of the elements found in the game. However, in the high fidelity version we wanted it to have a more polished immersive look to it and hence we enhanced the images that me and my teammates made, using generative AI (due to time constraints which was just 1 week for the high fi).
I learnt a lot about my strengths and weaknesses during the entire duration of this project. I was satisfied with the attention to detail me and my team put when it came to making the final experience as personal as possible for the target user. However, I suffered from overfixation on a singular idea during the ideation process, which slowed down my creativity.
